Mesa Shooting: Police ID Suspected Gunman as Neo-Nazi With Long Record
Wed Mar 18, 2015
This is the thing that always amazes me about neo-nazis with all this Hitler symbology tattooed all over them: If they were living in Nazi Germany, they'd probably be among the first citizens Hitler would move to exterminate. They would be comical if they weren't so hateful.
Robert Durst: Hot-Mic 'Killed Them All' Moment on 'The Jinx' Likely Admissible, Experts Say
Mon Mar 16, 2015
I dunno. Maybe? As a fiction writer with severe anxiety/OCD issues, the things I say aloud when I am alone are often downright bizarre and often lave no basis in reality. Sometimes I'm working through some dialogue for a short story or trying out plot twists. Sometimes I'm voicing my deepest darkest …
Missouri Killer Cecil Clayton Fights to Halt Execution Over Brain Damage
Mon Mar 16, 2015
I don't like this standard of being able to "understand" why they are being executed. If he's missing a part of his brain from his frontal lobe he can still understand WHY he's being executed, but that doesn't mean he could control his actions in the heat of the moment. From wikipedia: "The function …
Fatal Shooting of Unarmed Naked Man in Suburban Atlanta Under Review
Tue Mar 10, 2015
I'm not naive enough to suggest that cops "shoot guns out of hands" or only shoot to wing or fire warning shots - I know how hard it is to do stuff like that. Plus shots can ricochet. However, the dude had no weapon and was naked - he was incredibly physically vulnerable. Yeah, there was some risk t …
Dr. Ben Carson Apologizes For Saying Being Gay Is a Choice
Wed Mar 4, 2015
I wish being gay WAS a choice. My life would actually be easier if I was. My friends and family accept homosexuality as perfectly normal, and my best friend and I already act like an old married couple, and her millionaire parents have openly said they would love to have me as a daughter-in-law (the …
Dentists Doing Dermatology? Cosmetics Lure Docs of All Types
Tue Mar 3, 2015
In reply to:Kelcy #5.1 Yep - I'm living in a new area. Before, in my hometown, I could rely on word of mouth from people who had lived there for years. Now, I rely mainly on yelp reviews, which have to be carefully screened - lots of fake posters and people with chips on their shoulders. I'm pretty …
World Moved by Chilean 14-Year-Old's Plea to Be Allowed to Die
Sun Mar 1, 2015
In reply to:alumette #17 Lung transplants are very tricky (the donor has to be the right size) and the survival rates are not great in the following years. Further, her other organs could be damaged too badly for a lung transplant to be feasible.
To shoot or not to shoot? Researchers test how police react to danger
Mon Feb 23, 2015
I don't think the South Carolina killing was a good example of a gray area or split-second decision making - the cop was pretty clearly incompetent on that occasion. He told the guy to get his license and shot the motorist when he complied, then started nonsensically yelling "get out …
Meet the mom of 5 who says, 'I'm much happier being fat'
Thu Feb 19, 2015
She looks like a normal 40-year-old woman who has given birth to SIX children and taking medicine for bipolar disorder. She doesn't look obese or terribly overweight, just on the pudgy side. If her bloodwork is fine, I don't see the problem. There is something to be said for being comfortable i …
